KKFI 90.1FM continues celebrating 30 amazing years on-air with an event showcasing both the history and programming of KC’s beloved community radio station on June 30th, 7:00 to 10:30pm, at the historic Folly Theater located at 300 West 12th Street in downtown Kansas City.
The evening kicks off with a VIP Reception where KKFI supporters mingle with KKFI DJs & hosts, enjoy food and drink courtesy of event sponsors, and listen to a private performance by the exceptional KC ensemble, Fourscore. KKFI 90.1FM Founders as well as current and former KKFI DJs will be on hand to kickstart the party
The doors then open at 7:00 and the show itself begins at 7:15 with a panel discussion of KKFI’s history and origins (including a short video from KKFI’s first broadcast). Live performances celebrating the horizon-expanding diversity of KKFI while showcasing the talent of regional artists (including KKFI’s own working musicians) and introduced by KKFI DJs & Hosts in an old-school radio show format, start at 8:00 with a recap of the first song to go out over KKFI’s air (and may even include a brief radio play from KKFI’s ‘Shots in the Night’).
The live concert features two all-star house bands: one led by Michelle Bacon, the other by Clint Ashlock. These bands will back individual performances by over a dozen different KC-area artists, including: The Elders, Julia Othmer, Sara Morgan, Ernie Locke, Kemet the Phantom, Kadesh Flow, Una Walkenhorst, Cubanisms, Deepa Reality, Pablo Sanhueza, Ernest James Zydeco Duo, Bob & Diana Suckiel, Jason Vivone, Gerald Trimble & Jambaroque, Junebug, Dwight Frizzell (of BCR), Robert Rodriguez of Steele Road Band with Greg Conchola, and Rosie’s Bar & Grill.
Join us: celebrate the power and importance of community radio! The June 30 LIVE show celebrates that indefatigable spirit and promises to be an auditory extravaganza.
