We're on the road with the album now, gigging our way down the Kerrville, volunteering for the duration, and gigging on from there, 16 states over 3 months, we'd love to connect with more FAI folks along the way!

The music video is for our song "The Prophet" calling out climate denial disguised as religious righteousness.

New Music Alert: “Now The Wheel Has Turned”

Announcing a new single release from Vermont Song Smith and Folk Singer Jason Baker.

“Now The Wheel Has Turned”

3:30

Long-neck banjo and vocal

Written by “Old Fashioned Folksinger” Steve Suffet, who says of this song:

“Maybe it’s just another Gospel song. Or maybe it’s about the Israelis and the Palestinians, or about the Catholics and the Protestants, or about the Shi’ites and the Sunnis, or about the Pawnee and the Sioux. Or maybe it’s about all of the above, or about none of them. You decide. One thing is for sure: the wheel is always turning.”

Streaming on Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, Pandora, Deezer, and on my website and ReverbNation for free:

http://www.reverbnation.com/open_graph/song/35384239

Thanks!

Easy On Me - Exclusive Acoustic Performance

Easy On Me began as a personal plea to be gentler with myself and grew into a broader message of empathy for the collective heaviness we’re all living through. 2025 was a rough year personally and as I was slowly making my way back to a new normal, I noticed myself getting irritated for still feeling sad and uncertain. I eventually had to admit that my heart had been broken by the unexpected turns of the year. As I sat with that I remembered a quote by Elizabeth Lesser that said, “How ironic that the difficult times we fear might ruin us are the very ones that can break us open and help us blossom into who we were meant to be." That idea helped me allow the feelings of tenderness and vulnerability that had previously made me feel weak. Strength isn’t always about pushing, sometimes it’s giving yourself grace so this song was written as a plea to take it easy on myself. As time passed it became clear that the message was bigger than my own story. We are collectively living in really heartbreaking and harrowing times but we are stronger together. Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is to soften and take care of ourselves and each other. We have to stay human when life wants to harden us.

Hey Folk Alliance family,
Last Friday we released Taste for More, the first single from our upcoming album The Secret of Being Kind (out October '26).
A song about having someone to lean on when you're doubting yourself. Dreamy and melancholic, with a hopeful undertone, acoustic guitar, cello, and harmonies that slowly grow into something bigger.
Have a listen, and if you like it, please share it around!
And for those who were at our showcase in New Orleans this year: yes, this is the album we promised you 😊!
Greetings from the Netherlands

Imaginary Expedition - Winter Lullaby + The Ones Who Are Gone

Listen + pre-order: https://imaginaryexpedition.bandcamp.com
April 10, 2026 - digital release on all streaming platforms (except Spotify)

Together, the songs explore different ways people carry the memories of those they’ve lost.

Winter Lullaby is about savouring the longest nights of the year, when a lost love returns in dreams.

The Ones Who Are Gone is a song for anyone who's lost a friend.

The pairing reflects our roles as equals in our duo, as we take turns singing lead. We collaborated creating the lyrics and compositions, and the visual art is as much a collaboration as the music, with crayon drawings by Glyph Greenleaf and graphic design by Victoria Dobbs.

Both songs were recorded live off the floor, and the performances we’ve captured are authentic to the distinctive sound we’ve developed on stage together.

We’re grateful to everyone who waited patiently while we deliberated over details until we felt ready to share. Thank you for taking the time to listen.

Lyrics:

I feel like Iʼm drowning, thatʼs how I talk about it
You canʼt see anything Iʼm drownin' in
And you say Iʼm a beacon, itʼs just hard to believe it
When I feel like one of those angler fish
#folkmusic #americanamusic #folk #altcountry #americana
Iʼm afraid when I shine
Itʼs just a trick of the light
Iʼm no more than a spark
Sent to lure you
Into the dark

Iʼm not like Polaris, steadfast in her brightness
I guess Iʼm more like lightning one strike then Iʼm gone
I can light up the sky, Iʼm just not always so bright
And you canʼt rely on me guiding you home

Iʼm afraid when I shine
Itʼs just a trick of the light
Iʼm no more than a spark
Sent to lure you
Into the dark

I know that itʼs not true, I know Iʼm shining with you
But sometimes I still feel like a deepwater fish
The phosphorescence is our biggest defence
Down here in the darkness of the Mariana trench

Iʼm afraid when I shine
Itʼs just a trick of the light
Iʼm no more than a spark
Sent to lure you
Into the dark

But you tell me you know the dark
There are times when you lost your spark
And you donʼt have to shine all of the time
Itʼs exhausting but youʼre not alone
Sometimes lightningʼs all you need to guide you home

Oh oh oh oh oh I will guide you home
Oh oh oh oh oh guide you home

"Endlessly" is an acoustic folk song I wrote and secretly recorded as a surprise 20th anniversary gift for my husband. It is a tender, grounded love letter describing the start of our relationship in rural Kansas (and yes, I still have the mixtape). Overall, the song feels warm, pastoral, and deeply sincere—a celebration of lifelong devotion found in shared adventures, private rituals, and the simple miracle of choosing each other endlessly.
Not folk, but folk at heart! My EDM single Echoes of You - Out Now!!

"Echoes of You" lives in that specific space between heartbreak and healing—the kind of track designed to move your body even while your heart is breaking. Produced with Porter Hall, this is an upbeat EDM anthem anchored by the weight of real grief.

While the sound was inspired by the euphoric energy of John Summit and Dom Dolla, and the vocal emotive power of Ellie Goulding, the soul of the track is intensely personal. During the writing process, the phrase "Echoes of You" kept haunting me. It perfectly described the presence of absence—how the people we lose seem to linger in the quiet moments.

I channeled the loss of my grandfather, my sister-in-law, and my lifelong dog, Aubree. I took that raw, personal grief and reframed it into a story about a "forever" love lost too soon. It’s about the walls we build to keep the pain out, only to realize we’ve trapped ourselves in with the memories.

But ultimately, this isn't a sad song. It’s a survival song.

The line “I built these dreams out of pain / you keep dancing through the rain” is the turning point. It is the realization that loving hard and losing deep isn't a weakness—it’s a gift.

This song is about finding the courage to dance forward, even when the echoes are calling you back.

Your melancholy Christmas song has arrived.

It's about letting go and trying to hang on to the beauty at the same time.

The unreal feeling of Christmas time in California, almost like they're faking their way through the holiday. And sometimes I've felt like I had to fake my way through the holidays.

Grief and heart ache don't take a Christmas vacation. And for most of us, they make themselves rather cozy, in fact, around the fire.

Big thanks to Anna La Mare for putting the tour together with us, and to everyone who hosted us along the way. Can't wait to get back down to New Orleans for FAI, and for our next stops through Nashville, St. Louis, and Texas!

Stay Put - Elexa Dawson

Not missing a beat since her last full-length release, Elexa Dawson unearths Stay Put. Reviving the ensemble who backed her on her 2019 debut, Music is Medicine, Stay Put delivers a hazy, classic sound with plenty of nostalgia and dirt under its nails.

“Stay Put is both a follow-up to Wanderlust and a sequel to Music is Medicine,” Dawson explains. “It takes me back to my roots as an acoustic player and collaborator and showcases the ensemble that made Music is Medicine a success, with the seasoned experience that came with all the electric experimentation that we did with Wanderlust. Peter Oviatt is one of the best producers working in our scene today, and his embellishments, whether it’s his signature banjo or exploration with polyphonic synths, are so tasty and original. Kelby on bass is like a security blanket, and Melissa’s vocals are always the perfect accompaniment to mine. I’m proud of this work and my team.”

From the opening reimagining of Pete Seeger’s “Where Have All The Flowers Gone” as an Indigenous chant, Elexa stimulates the memory of civil rights issues of the ‘60s and reflects their relevance to present-day conflict. The title track, “Stay Put” is a songwriter’s song, a confession of a restless poet who leaves the comfort of indulgent love to chase inspiration. “Man Mountain” and “Cove” were written about and by, respectively, a mentor and a man who knows the value of a place that holds you close. In “Roots Grow”, a story about the way trees can teach us to live edifies the listener with an assurance of resilience in the face of adversity. “Baling Hay” is a tribute to Elexa’s Grandpa, a humble, hardworking soul whose tractor-greasy grace lives on in memory and song. Finally, “The Riddle Song” documents Elexa’s inherited rendition of a traditional Appalachian tune sung to her from the morning she was born by her Nana, who dubbed her an alto that day, and continues to support her from the other side of the soil.

Stay Put proves a deeply rooted and timely work sprouting from the grounding element of earth. With this viscerally personal release, Dawson anchors her message in the soil of memory, tradition, and identity. Building on her two preceding albums, Elexa continues to amplify the ancestors, infusing her voice with the grit of Oklahoma red dirt and wind-washed Kansas prairie. These are homesick songs, not just in the geographic sense, but in the spiritual and emotional sense of belonging in a world where we’re more detached from our nourishing roots every day. Stay Put is a call to remember and celebrate those roots. Elexa pays tribute to the places that raised her, the familial ties that shaped her story, and the Indigenous traditions that inform her sense of purpose and place in the world. Stay Put will make itself comfortable in the heart of anyone who has ever felt the gravity of home, the ache for grounding, and the power of not forgetting where you come from.

New Single ‘Sweet and the Burn’ from A Different Thread

Our latest single ‘Sweet and the Burn’ from our upcoming album ‘Over Again’ (out May 1st 2026) came out of Friday the 5th of September!

Take a listen, let us know what you think!

Lyrics:

Have you seen the old town
Itʼs like a record with the needle down
You can think youʼre playing it
The more you do the more it skips
And youʼll be begging for another turn
The sweet comes with the burn

Instrumental

Walking on a knife edge
Wondering why Iʼm not dead yet
“Cause itʼs something that you canʼt refuse
I paid Charlie just to be excused
And Iʼll be begging for another turn
The sweet comes with the burn
The sweet comes with the burn
The sweet comes with the…
Burn

Instrumental

If the liquor doesnʼt do me in
It will hold me like an old friend
Dancing with me all night
And tell me that itʼs all right
And Iʼm still begging for another turn
The sweet comes with the burn
The sweet comes with the burn
The sweet comes with the…
Burn

The sweet comes with the burn
The sweet comes with the burn
Itʼs a lesson that I never learn, yeah
The sweet comes with the burn
The sweet comes with the burn
The sweet comes with the…

Hey everyone. My name's Ben Eisenberger and I recently released my third album Ben Eisenberger Chamber Group a few weeks ago digitally and on vinyl :)

I play a sort of fingerpicked, classically-influenced style of guitar and write songs. I started out solo, moved to a second record that encompassed a few more musicians, and this is sort of my first "full band" thing. There's many influences - from musical-ish melody lines, free improvisation, and an overall ambient vibe.

I was sort of discouraged at the lack of label/press/management/radio/any response toward the record before and after release, despite so much reaching out. I'd really appreciate it if you gave it a listen and let me know what you think!

A heartfelt ballad that honors the quiet dignity of rural life and the memory of a loved one gone too soon, “Baling Hay” provides the lead single from Elexa Dawson's third studio album, Stay Put. “Baling Hay” is a tribute to Elexa’s Grandpa, a humble, hardworking soul whose tractor-greasy grace lives on in memory and song. With vivid pastoral imagery and an intimate vocal delivery, rooted in folk tradition and country soul, it’s a song that will be memorable for any music lover from rural North America.

“Free” is an anthem of liberation and self-respect—a song for anyone who’s ever had to claw their way out of a relationship that dimmed their light. It’s raw and triumphant, feminine and fierce, blending the storytelling heart of classic Americana with the emotion and musicianship of original folk music.

Co-written by Essence Goldman with Merkley, Rachel Hoiem, and Roman Weingartner, “Free” pulses with a full band, is rich with personality of leading lady Essence Goldman and has some depth with the universal message: You don’t have to shrink to survive. You don’t have to sacrifice your joy to stay in someone else’s version of your life. Essence sings this truth loud, proud, and barefoot—to dance is to heal.

This is the first single from her upcoming album Father’s Daughter, produced by David Simon-Baker (Jackie Greene, ALO). Essence’s past work was featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, and she’s currently a producer on the upcoming feature film about her journey with Bernie and the Believers—in partnership with John Legend and Paramount.

Jill Sobule's "F*ck 7th Grade - Original Cast Recording

Jill Sobule’s work was at once deeply personal and socially conscious, seriously funny and derisively tragic. In a dozen albums spanning three decades of recording, the Denver-born songwriter/guitarist/singer has tackled such topics as the death penalty, anorexia nervosa, shoplifting, reproduction, the French Resistance, adolescent malaise, LGBTQ issues, and the Christian Right. Her hits include “I Kissed A Girl”—the first openly gay-themed song ever to crack the Billboard Top 20—and the alt-rock anthem “Supermodel” featured in the film Clueless. Sobule was one half of The Jill & Julia Show, providing music while actor Julia Sweeney contributes storytelling. Jill is considered a pioneer in crowdfunding and is constantly exploring and creating new models for artists in an ever-changing music industry.

Jill’s new record, F*ck 7th Grade - Original Cast Recording and will be released on her own Pinko Records label on June 6th. Her theater credits included a musical adaptation of the Broadway classic Yentl, Prozak and the Platypus, and Times Square. In November of 2019 Jill sang a song as herself on an episode of the Simpsons. F*ck 7th Grade ran off-Broadway for four (4) runs in three (3) years and gained a New York Times Critics Pick. Drama Desk nominated this autobiographical musical, which premiered at the Wild Project in 2022; had a reboot in the Winter of 2023 - and ran again for three weeks in 2024.

Also on June 6th, Rhino Records is releasing her self-titled Atlantic Records album on red vinyl for the first time - to time with Pride Month! This year marks the album’s 30th Anniversary!

Following her untimely demise on May 1st, many of her previously scheduled shows have morphed into Jillith Fair - Loving Jill Sobule shows, benefiting the new It Was A Good Life Foundation. Funds will be distributed by this foundation to the ACLU and other causes Jill cared deeply about. The hope is that these shows will become annual events on her birthday, January 16th & during Pride Month in the future.

Jill left behind two partially completed albums, 50-70+ finished tracks, hundreds of demos, and a few titles that had fallen out of print. Plus, we’re hoping a tribute album will take shape for release to time with a feature length documentary on her that should be completed by years’ end. We hope to help keep her spirit, memory, & music alive.

“Jill Sobule can claim her place among the stellar New York singer-songwriters of the last decade. Topical, funny and more than a little poignant …grown-up music for an adolescent age.” - The New York Times
